In 2022, Tate Chesley celebrated 31 years with NMS and transitioned his Security career into a role with the Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) division under Jeremy Wagner.
Tate was born in Kotzebue and has lived all over Alaska before settling in Eagle River in 1984. He’s married to lovely Helann and has a beautiful, feisty 15-year-old daughter.
Tate’s story with NMS started with Purcell Security in 1991, after a stint on a drilling rig after high school. It didn’t take long until he was sent back up on the slope – this time in a security role. Tate took his career seriously and earned his EMT-3 designation. Within 14 years – he was a lead medic. He kept that lead medic role and lead security officer in several other positions with NMS and even made time to get a computer science degree.
His career with NMS and NMS clients has him learning from and befriending retired military, federal officers and even some Navy Seals! He says he’s had many people on the slope take him under their wing and share their knowledge.
In September 2022, Tate made a move to the NMS HSSE division. Tate’s supervisor Jeremy Wagner said, “Tate is new to the NMS HSSE department. When he expressed interest in a career in Safety, I was excited for him and knew he would be an excellent fit. When I first met Tate, he was a Security Officer and member of the emergency response team at Endicott on the North Slope. I found him to be calm, cool and collected even under pressure, a mentor who encourages team members to work to their full potential, and he has always been dedicated to NMS’ success.” His new role has him overseeing 48 units and working in town. Being on the slope was an exciting and challenging career, but he’s thankful for his new role in Safety.
Regarding his 31 years with NMS, he says, “Don’t wait for the doors to open, open them yourself and if it’s locked, move on.” He’s honored to be working with NMS
