NMS Achieves Green Star Certification

As Alaska’s 6th largest private employer, NMS understands that when making companywide changes, the company can have a big impact on the communities they serve.

Anchorage, AK May 15, 2009

NMS recently achieved its Green Star Certification for the headquarters building located at Potter and C Street in Anchorage. “Getting the headquarters building Green Star certified is one of the ways in which NMS demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility,” says NMS’ HSSE Vice President Craig Clemens.

By working with Green Star, NMS was able to implement practical changes in daily operations that not only helped them to be more environmentally friendly, but to increase savings by eliminating waste. Some of the ways NMS eliminated waste was by stocking the employee break room with reusable dishes and suspending the purchase of disposable dishware, installing motion sensory light switches in bathrooms and break rooms, installing vending misers on vending machines and purchasing biodegradable “greenware” for large office functions.

“With more than 2,000 employees located throughout Alaska, we have the opportunity to encourage environmental stewardship in every community we serve” noted Penny Cotten, VP Marketing Communications. “We’re excited to have received our Green Star certification for our headquarters building and looking forward to expanding our stewardship throughout our operations.” NMS is committed to involving all of its business locations in the Green Star program throughout Alaska.
